EGSE and SCOE system design for third parties

Full design of an EGSE cabinet for the data chain of an Earth-observation satellite, including all 3D modelling and custom cables, and electrical and mechanical design of a power supply SCOE for a launch vehicle. A design office delivering a design, not a box.

External cable connection drawing: the cabinet in general view and three detail views of the termination points, with every cable individually identified
Cabinet layout drawing: front, rear and side elevations with numbered mounting positions, and an isometric view of the assembly

An EGSE cabinet — Electrical Ground Support Equipment: the ground electrical equipment with which a satellite is powered, commanded and monitored during integration and check-out — for the payload data handling and transmission chain of an Earth-observation satellite, for a European space prime contractor.

The scope is that of a design office delivering a design: layout of the commercial instruments inside the cabinet, envelope, access and cable-route checks, interconnection schematic, cabling drawings, and all the 3D modelling of the assembly — which is what allows a mechanical clash to be found in CAD rather than on the shop floor. It includes custom cable design, the part of a rack that determines maintainability and electromagnetic compatibility more than the choice of instruments does.

The second supply is a power supply SCOE — Special Check-Out Equipment: the part of the EGSE dedicated to one specific interface — for a European launch vehicle, the unit that supplies and monitors ground power to the vehicle during check-out: electrical and mechanical design, hardware component identification, technical documentation and assembly drawings.

Together the two document the least visible and most qualifying part of the trade: being the designer of a system somebody else builds. In both, IN SY TO provided specialist support to integration and AIT.

Role

R3 — Design and engineering, build excluded; R5 — Specialist support to AIT. Scale: cabinets, new build. Customers: a European space prime contractor and a space agency.
