Cabinet for an observation payload data chain

Harness design and build, cabinet integration and support to AIT on an observation payload data chain.

Cabinet with the doors open in the integration room: equipment on its shelves, harness folded along the upright and cable slack laced at the top
Front of the integrated cabinet: data-chain equipment on the upper shelves and the power distribution unit with metering and emergency stop at the bottom

The cabinet housing an observation payload's data handling and transmission chain during ground testing.

The role here is integrator rather than system designer, and the specific contribution is the harness: design and manufacture of the loom, which in a check-out cabinet determines access, maintainability and electromagnetic compatibility more than the choice of instruments does, and which is the first thing you pay for when it is done badly.

The cabinet forms one functional assembly with the input/output front-end electronics and the interface and self-test box of the same chain: three separate supplies, one system.

Role

R4 — Integration and harnessing on third-party systems; R5 — Specialist support to AIT. Scale: cabinet, integration on a third-party system. Customer: an Italian satellite operator.
